Modiano Playing Cards
Italian Craftsmanship Since 1884
About Modiano
Modiano (founded before 1884) is an Italian brand of playing cards. The company was founded by Saul Modiano in Trieste and initially manufactured cigarette papers. In 1884 it diversified into lithographic printing, including playing cards. In 1987 the company was taken over by the Grafad group, though the Modiano brand is still in use for playing cards and games equipment.
In the 1930s, Modiano's advertising posters were created by notable artists and are now reproduced for sale as collectibles.
Modiano's poker cards are made from cellulose acetate and are widely considered among the finest-feeling plastic cards available. Their two main poker lines are the Platinum (classic red/black) and the 4 Color Poker (blue diamonds, green clubs).

Different Deck, Same Great Feel
These are basically the same cards as their 4-color version with just the classic red/black design. As such, my review in terms of playability is the same.
The cards have amazing feel. The flex is just about perfect for me which hits the sweet spot between too soft and too stiff. The control and travel was nearly perfect as the cards parked right where I put them and they aren't too slippery when shuffling.
I'm not wild about the card back design, the ace of spades, or the jokers. I do like the face card design.
Pros
- Excellent feel
- Excellent travel and control
- Good case

Four Colors to Rule Them All
My players tend to complain when I try to use 4-color decks. I guess they prefer a traditional look to their decks. I will say that having four colors does tend to make it easier to spot flushes more quickly.

4-color decks use blue for diamonds and green for clubs instead of the traditional all-red/all-black. This makes suits easier to read at a glance, especially in Omaha and Seven-Card Stud where suits matter more. See our Playing Cards Guide for more on 4-color decks.
Pros
- Great color contrast
- Excellent feel
- Excellent travel and control
Cons
- Creepy / plain jokers
- Case requires cardboard box
